Being an avid traveler, I have collected a fairly extensive amount of footage from around the world. I was excited to use these assets in a piece for Airbnb, in addition to filming some scenes which I planned specifically for the commercial. All footage in the commercial is owned by me, and it was exciting to use it in such a fun project.
Filming the additional footage I wanted for the commercial was a really fun process. I grabbed a camera, went to the beach, threw dinner parties, and just tried to capture the energy that I believe Airbnb carries. One of my favorite shoots was a dinner party that I filmed. I cooked some pasta, and had some (wonderful) friends come to eat and chat while enjoying two of the greatest things there are - food and converstation. I worked with a fellow artist and cinematographer on this particular shoot. I was extremely happy with the footage, as well as for the opportunity to collaborate on a set.
Ideation is always one of my favorite parts of any project. I explored a multitude of different styles and concepts before deciding on the piece you see presented here. I worked extensively to understand the brief on multiple levels, and conducted several research studies to gain insight into Airbnbs audience and target demographic. In addition, I worked closely with the Airbnb style guide to ensure that the piece would coincide with the brand.
Once I decided upon the style and the concept of the commercial I began to storyboard the animation. This is a rough breakdown of how I envisioned the commercial to look. I ended up editing and altering minor things during production, but always stayed true to the style and emotion of the piece.
This campaign package was put together once the commercial was completed. I wanted to show the potential that the style holds and how it can expand across many different media platforms.
